About this event

Sign up with your professor for a unique open-air tour of DC Water's Potomac River Tunnel Project!

This is an on-site walking tour of DC Water's next major phase of the DC Clean Rivers Project. The $819M project will install 5.5 miles of an 18ft. diameter sewer tunnel along the Potomac River, cutting combined sewer overflows 93% annually and improving water quality. Descend below the streets of DC and step inside an active tunnel boring operation. You'll go down the shaft for direct access to two TBM tunnels and come face to face with the massive Tunnel Boring Machines boring the Potomac River Tunnel. See the full site in action, including the slurry, water treatment, and grout plants and the TBM support systems powering it all. This is a rare ground-level look at large-diameter tunneling beneath an active urban environment, the kind of access few engineers ever get.

Post-tour, meet company reps from several area firms for internship and entry-level career opportunities! Bring your resume!
