About this event

Bloomingdale) Yin Yoga for Deep Stretching + Relaxation @ 1830 1st St NW This is a rejuvenating class that is appropriate for all levels of experience, featuring deeply nourishing stretches. Get ready to sink into the body and breath: this practice focuses on long-held floor poses with the support of comfy props. Give yourself the time and space to open the deeper tissues of the body (such as the ligaments and joints), and balance your energy. Find out how the stillness of the breath, body, and mind can allow you to explore any sensations that arise. For comfort, a blanket on your mat is recommended. Props: Blankets, towels, pillows, a strap (cord, belt, strap for yoga mat, detachable purse strap & don't worry if you don't have a strap option!); folding chair or chair that can be moved easily (purely optional). Read on to learn about class levels, details on the class sequencing, and important information about your class location/format. Here's what to expect in the beginning, middle and end of class: Classes usually start with a series of "grounding", stabilizing movements. This can help you reconnect your mind with your body, while connecting the pace of body movements to the breath. Then the class usually transitions to more warming, strengthening, engaging poses. Toward the end of class you may find poses that focus on flexibility and release. Class usually ends with a final relaxation in "savasana" pose, during which you can lay quietly in stillness to let go. This combination of practices can help you achieve what some refer to as the goal of yoga: awareness of interconnectivity and oneness, bringing about a compassionate way of being. Please arrive at least ten minutes before class time. Enjoy!
