About this event
(Petworth) Energizing Flow @ 3905 Georgia Ave NW Fun Friday Flow is a space where we will prioritize a sound mind through mindfulness, flowing breath through breath work and a curious body through energizing/heat building postures and deep cooling stretches! These elements put together will bring us to a space of awareness, release and restoration. This is an all level class with some yoga experience recommended. Please arrive at least five minutes before class as we lock doors at the start of class for security. Please try an online class if you have any symptoms that may relate to COVID. If the class title above states vaccination is required, please bring proof of vaccination with you (pics are OK). If you need our support please text 202-265-YOGA. Class description: Our flow classes are designed to be challenging and inspiring. This class is designed for those with experience practicing yoga who are able to transition between poses at a faster pace. You'll move through a flowing, connected series of postures while concentrating on the breath. The pace of this class is usually faster than our Hatha Yoga or regular Yoga classes. Class often starts with some meditative practices, moving to a thorough warm-up so we can really work in poses that allow us to experience our range of movement, engagement, and offer a great stretch. Class levels: - In our all levels, aka level 1-3 classes, options for all levels of experience are offered. - In our level 1-2 class, options for both total beginners as well as intermediate practitioners of yoga will be provided - In level 1.5-2 classes, options for beginners with some experience as well as intermediate participants are provided. - In level 2-3 classes, options for both intermediate and advanced participants will be provided. - In level 1.5-3 class, options for beginners with some experience as well as intermediate and advanced participants will be provided. - In level 1 and level 1-1.5 classes, options for people totally new to yoga are the focus. Why the same class type can feel different when taught by different teachers: It’s our mission to ensure yoga is accessible and meets your needs! Each Yoga District teacher has their own way of teaching yoga, so we recommend trying a variety of class types with a variety of teachers. With so many options, you're bound to find a teacher and class type that work for you! Here's what to expect in the beginning, middle and end of class: Classes usually start with a series of "grounding," stabilizing movements. This can help you reconnect your mind with your body, while connecting the pace of body movements to the breath. Then the class usually transitions to more warming, strengthening, engaging poses. Toward the end of class you may find poses that focus on flexibility and release. Class usually ends with a final relaxation in "savasana" pose, during which you can lay quietly in stillness to let go. This combination of practices can help you achieve what some refer to as the goal of yoga: awareness of interconnectivity and oneness, bringing about a compassionate way of being.
