About this event
(H St.) Meditative Flow @ 500 H St NE, Rear Entrance Class description: Meditative yoga links active movement and stillness for a serene yet challenging practice that strengthens and stretches muscles with safe alignment. Poses may be held for longer to promote awareness, increasing opportunities to find stillness and peace in the pose and become more grounded in the present moment. Class starts and/or ends with breathing and/or meditation. Class features and extended savasana relaxation. Why the same class type can feel different when taught by different teachers: It’s our mission to ensure yoga is accessible and meets your needs! Each Yoga District teacher has their own way of teaching yoga, so we recommend trying a variety of class types with a variety of teachers. With so many options, you're bound to find a teacher and class type that work for you! Class levels: This class is an all-levels class. If you're totally new please just let the teacher know when you arrive. All are welcome! Here's what to expect in the beginning, middle and end of class: Classes usually start with a series of "grounding", stabilizing movements. This can help you reconnect your mind with your body, while connecting the pace of body movements to the breath. Then the class usually transitions to more warming, strengthening, engaging poses. Toward the end of class you may find poses that focus on flexibility and release. Class usually ends with a final relaxation in "savasana" pose, during which you can lay quietly in stillness to let go. This combination of practices can help you achieve what some refer to as the goal of yoga: awareness of interconnectivity and oneness, bringing about a compassionate way of being. Props: Yoga "props" can help you feel more steady and supported in yoga poses. If you have your own yoga props, please use them! If not, creativity is invited! We love using blankets, towels, pillows, a strap (cord, belt, a robe tie, strap for yoga mat, detachable purse strap). Some classes even make use of a folding chair or chair that can be moved easily (purely optional).
