Contemporary- Beginner (Choreography)

Drawing from both Classical Ballet and Modern dance, Contemporary dance is an abstract form of movement that focuses on emotional expression and storytelling. Influenced by the likes of Merce Cunningham and Twyla Tharp, this transcendent form of dance has reached new heights of popularity thanks to T.V. shows, such as So You Think You Can Dance. A strong technical foundation is necessary to execute often inverted or “rule-breaking” steps and combinations, and students are advised to enroll in Ballet classes alongside this course. In this Beginner-level class for dancers, you will learn the fundamentals: Floor work, contract and release, basic technique (plies, tendu, Port de bras, etc.), improvisation exercises/interpretive movement, musicality, and emotional connection, and will also learn a new combo every one or two weeks. Please note that this class is open to teens in addition to adults.
